A small guide. At your own pace.
Start with one thing.
Open Quiet from Applications and follow the quick start guide. You can use tasks, notes and clipboard without creating an account. Quiet is free during early access.
Find Quiet
Hover at the top centre of your screen to open the workspace. Move away to close it. Click the notch to show or hide your pins. On a Mac without a notch, use the same top-centre area. Quiet runs from the menu bar without a Dock icon.
Choose a task
Add a short task, then use its pin to keep it in sight. Two tasks can be pinned, one on each side of the notch. Click task text to edit; click its number or empty row space to start timing. Drag the number or row space to change priority.
Use time when it helps
Use a task’s timer icon to add an estimate. The pinned countdown shows minutes and seconds. Hiding or unpinning does not pause timing. Elapsed time is hidden by default; change it in Settings. Hover a task and click its checkmark when done.
Capture without losing your place
Control–Option–Space opens quick capture from any app. Return saves; Escape keeps your draft. You can enable Command–T for tasks and Command–N for notes in Settings. These optional shortcuts replace your other apps’ New Tab and New Window commands while enabled. With them enabled, hold Command and press T, then N to add and pin.
Keep ideas in Notes
Use the compose icon for a new note. Notes save as you type. Select text for formatting, use Command–B for bold, or Shift–Command–L for a checklist. The sparkle at the bottom sends only that note to Quiet’s AI service to draft tasks. Review, edit and confirm before anything is added. Your original note stays.
Use your clipboard
Click Quiet’s menu-bar icon to open Clipboard. Click an item to copy it again, or search, pin, and turn it into a task or note. Capture starts with new copies while Quiet runs. Clipboard history stays on your Mac and can be disabled in Settings.
Connect your account
Click Sign in in Quiet. Your browser opens with email/password and Google options, and Quiet signs in automatically when you finish. Your tasks, notes, completed history, and pins connect automatically on first sign-in, preserving existing work from both places. Add a passkey from Account settings in the workspace. Wait for Synced before expecting changes on another Mac. Clipboard history stays local.
Connect Google Calendar
Google Calendar uses a separate sign-in from Quiet Cloud. Choose Connect Google Calendar and approve access to the calendars and events you want to use. During early access, Google may display an unverified-app notice and limit new connections until its review is complete. Connected calendars show events you can view and, where permitted, edit. In Quiet Cloud settings, Use this Mac’s Google Calendar in my cloud connects the same calendar to the browser portal. You can also connect Google from the browser Calendar section. Reminders appear at the notch. Clicking a reminder dismisses it and restores your pins.
Record and share
Open Recordings, sign in, then choose New recording. Select a screen, window, browser tab, or Camera only. Browser tabs use the portal’s sharing dialog. Camera and microphone start enabled; use their controls to choose another device or turn either off. Your live camera bubble starts at the bottom-right. On Mac it floats above other apps; in the browser it stays inside Quiet’s page. A three-second countdown starts capture. Pause, stop, or use Start over to discard this take and record again with the same settings. Stop finishes the original capture, then Quiet applies Studio effects and uploads automatically. Keep Quiet open until processing and upload finish; the share link appears and is copied when ready. In a browser that blocks automatic clipboard access, use Copy link.
Studio recording effects
Studio applies effects after recording finishes, using the original video and recorded timing. On Mac, the view stays mostly wide. For a reliably mapped entire-screen capture, click zooms ease in about 1.5 seconds before a recorded click, follow the cursor gently, and begin returning to the full frame immediately after the click. Window captures stay wide because their click coordinates cannot be mapped reliably. Nearby repeated clicks do not prolong the zoom, and wide intervals keep the view from jumping constantly. Use the recording controls to enable or disable these effects. Browser screen sharing does not reliably expose clicks in other apps, so browser recordings stay wide unless you mark a zoom with the focus controls. Selection highlights, framing and camera placement are still processed after Stop. Keep the browser page visible; processing takes roughly the length of your recording. For a mapped entire screen on Mac, More → Cursor controls cursor smoothing and size before recording. Quiet smooths the recorded path, keeps the pointer aligned with clicks, and uses high-resolution cursor artwork when available. Window and browser recordings keep their embedded cursor. New recordings process and upload automatically after Stop; original tracks and editable projects are removed from this device after successful upload. On Mac, older private takes and failed-upload recovery copies can still be edited in Studio before uploading. Existing browser raw drafts also keep their review controls.
Select text while recording
Drag across text or double-click a word while recording a screen or window. Quiet recognizes visible text selections, highlights each line with a color suited to the background. Highlights are added after recording; selecting text alone does not trigger an extra automatic zoom. These effects are included in the uploaded video. Automatic click zooms on Mac and selection highlights start enabled. On Mac, detection follows mouse selection gestures; keyboard-only selections are not detected. Custom selection colors or very small text may not be recognized.
Finish an interrupted upload
Recordings are stored in Quiet Cloud. Quiet keeps a temporary original while processing and a recovery copy until upload is confirmed, then removes the local video, original tracks and recording drafts. If upload fails, sign in to the same account and choose Retry upload; do not clear browser data or delete the recovery copy first. Older private takes are not uploaded automatically when you open Quiet. The current shared-video limit is 50 MB. Processing and upload time depend on your recording size, device and connection; the link is marked ready only after the cloud confirms the complete video.
Share links and comments
Recordings lists your saved videos with preview, Copy link, playback count, and remaining share time. Share links expire 72 hours after upload; copying a link does not extend it. Your signed-in library access continues. Viewers can leave their name and a comment, optionally attached to the current video time. Click a comment’s timestamp to jump there. Guests can delete their own comments from the same browser, and the video owner can remove any comment. Comments follow the same link expiry. Deleting a shared video also deletes its comments.
Use Quiet in your browser
Signing in opens your workspace directly, with Tasks, Notes, Calendar, and Recordings. Tasks and notes use the same cloud copy as connected Macs. Notes save as you type. If another device saves first, Quiet keeps your draft and asks you to refresh instead of overwriting it.
Recover and customise
Completed shows task history, recorded duration and a return-to-Tasks control. Recently Deleted in Settings restores removed tasks and notes. Local backups and export protect your work. Drag the workspace edges to resize it; your place and size are remembered. Settings also controls appearance, startup and shortcut labels.
