Quiet stores your tasks, notes, and clipboard history on your Mac. Cloud sync is optional.

Accounts and cloud sync

When enabled, Quiet uses Supabase to authenticate your account using email, Google, or a passkey and store your tasks, notes, completion history, recently deleted items, and pin selections under your account. Other users cannot read this data. Quiet stores your account email and account identifier to authenticate you and keep your cloud data associated with your account. If you choose Google sign-in, your Google profile information, including your name, may also be stored with your account. Cloud data is not end-to-end encrypted.

What stays on your Mac

Clipboard history, API keys, and cursor movements are not part of Quiet Cloud sync. Mac account tokens are stored in Keychain.

Note audio and encrypted notes

Audio recorded inside a note stays on your Mac and is not included in Quiet Cloud sync or regular workspace exports. You can save an individual recording as an audio file. Note folders, tags and pin preferences also stay on this Mac. File attachments copied into ordinary notes are part of those notes and may be included in cloud sync when enabled.

Local encrypted notes use password-derived keys to encrypt their titles and contents on your Mac. They are separate from ordinary notes, cloud sync and regular workspace exports. Quiet does not store or send the password and cannot recover a forgotten password. Unlocking decrypts the note in memory; closing the encrypted-notes panel or leaving the app locks it again.

Google Calendar and passkeys

When you connect Google Calendar to your cloud, its access credentials are stored encrypted in Supabase Vault so Quiet can show and edit your events. They are accessible only to Quiet’s authenticated server service. Disconnecting removes that cloud connection. Your Mac’s separate Calendar connection can be managed in the Mac app. Passkey private keys stay with your authenticator or password manager; Quiet stores their public credentials. Browser-to-Mac sign-in uses an encrypted, single-use grant that expires after five minutes.

Notes and AI

When you choose to turn a note into tasks, the selected note is sent to OpenAI through Quiet’s AI service. This only happens when you request it. Requests to Quiet’s shared AI service include an installation-specific public identifier and a signed request so the service can authenticate requests and limit abuse. This identifier is not an advertising identifier. Your OpenAI API key is never included in the downloadable app.

Screen recordings

Recording starts only when you choose it and grant capture permission. You select the tab, window or screen. Camera and microphone are enabled by default in recording setup; you can choose different devices or turn either off before starting. Opening setup starts a live camera preview after permission is granted. This preview is not saved or uploaded. Studio effects are processed locally. During a Mac screen recording, Quiet saves timed cursor positions, clicks and cursor artwork within the selected display to support focus and cursor effects after recording. Cursor images remain temporary source assets and are removed with the project after confirmed upload. It does not log keystrokes. Browser automatic focus analyzes changes inside the selected capture. Text selection detection also uses the captured pixels. Quiet temporarily retains selected areas, timing and background brightness while preparing the recording; it does not extract the selected characters as text metadata or request Accessibility access for this feature. Stopping starts processing of the original capture. Quiet applies effects using recorded timing, then automatically uploads the finished video to private Supabase storage under your account. Quiet shows the share link after the upload is confirmed. Original tracks and Studio interaction data are not uploaded. Anyone with its share link can watch for 72 hours after the upload completes. Your own access continues in the recordings portal, where you can delete a video. Viewer comments include a chosen name, text, and an optional video timestamp. They are visible to anyone with the active share link. A seven-day browser cookie lets guests remove their own comments; the video owner can moderate comments. Deleting a recording also deletes its comments. Expiry cannot remove a copy someone already saved. Videos are not end-to-end encrypted. After a successful upload, the Mac app removes the temporary rendered video, original screen/camera/audio tracks and Studio project from this Mac. Cloud recordings remain in your signed-in library until you delete them. While processing and uploading, Quiet keeps a temporary original and recovery copy on this device. If either step fails, you can retry. Browser recovery uses IndexedDB when available; new successful recordings do not keep video in browser storage. Recovery is shown only after you sign in to the same account. Keep Quiet open during processing and upload. Clearing browser data can remove failed-upload recovery copies. Older private recordings are not uploaded automatically merely because you reopen Quiet. Quiet records a playback count and the most recent playback time for shared videos. Repeated play events in the same page session count once; counts are plays, not identified unique people.

Your copy

You can export your local data in Quiet’s Settings. After connecting, your account page also lets you export your cloud copy. Hosting and authentication providers may retain access and security logs.

Deleting your account

Open Quiet’s cloud account settings, then choose Delete account on the account page. After you confirm, Quiet removes your account, synced workspace data, uploaded recordings and their comments, and saved cloud connection credentials. Shared recording links stop working. Deletion does not erase local copies on your devices, copies other people downloaded, or events in your Google Calendar. Hosting and authentication providers may retain security logs or backups according to their retention policies.
